CEE Swimmers Competed at the National Open Water and State Surf championships.

 

It was a very busy weekend for a few Cranbrook Eastern Edge Swimmers, Brandon Barton, Ella Basalo, Summer Walker, Jesse Walker, McKenzie Gavin and Lara Molle who competed at the State and National championships.

 

2010 open water championshipsBrandon represented CEE competing at 2010 Australian Open Water Swimming Championships on Saturday 20 February 2010 and Sunday 21 February 2010 at  Nagambie Lake,  Nagambie VICTORIA.

 

In the 16 years group Brandon finished 10th in a 5 km event (1:03:51.80  ) and on the following day he
finished 5th after 10 km of swimming (2:20:07.00 ). 2 top ten placings from Brandon - enormous effort and rewarding results. Check full results on Clubs Online.

 

Ella-May Basalo (Maroubra SLSC) won the State Surf title at the NSW Junior Surf Life Saving Championships on 21 Feb 2010.

Staged at  Blacksmiths Beach at Swansea Belmont in the Hunter, where more than 3,500 nippers took to the beach and water for what was this year’s largest surf sports event in the country.

Ella-May finally claimed her first gold medal in the Surf final in the Under 13 age group after she finished third in last  year’s Surf final and  second the year before.

“I was pretty hungry for a gold medal in my favourite event,” said Ella, a year 8 student at Randwick Girls High School, in the intervew with Newcastle Herald.

“Today I just thought about going fast. I concentrated on my own race".

“Swimming is my sport, it’s my strength,”  added Ella who loves swimming and trains eight times a week in the pool. Ella also finished 3rd in U13 Iron Woman.

 

In the younger age goups Summer Walker won 2 titles, a Gold medal in the U9 Female Surf Raceand  and Silver in the Board race. Jesse Walker came 2nd in the boys U11Iron Man. McKenzie Gavin also won a silver in the U9 Male Surf Race sand Lara Molle won a silver in the U11 Female Surf Race.
